Automechanika Shanghai

Automechanika Shanghai is the largest automotive parts, equipment and service trade fair in Asia and the biggest event in the worldwide Automechanika network. The 2026 edition runs 2–5 December at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Hongqiao), Shanghai, occupying the whole venue — around 390,000 m² across 16 halls plus the mezzanine floors — with roughly 7,600 exhibitors.

Organised by Messe Frankfurt together with the China National Machinery Industry International Cooperation Association, the fair covers the complete automotive value chain: OEM and aftermarket parts, electronics and vehicle systems, tyres and wheels, body and paint, workshop equipment and diagnostics, accessories and customising, car care, and — growing fastest — new energy vehicles, charging and connectivity.

For a sourcing buyer this is the single most efficient automotive trip in China: the depth of the Chinese supplier base here has no equivalent anywhere else, and price levels sit well below the European aftermarket. The trade-off is scale — without a plan, four days disappear into aisles.

The fair is organised into five product sections spread across the NECC halls, with several special zones on top. Decide which sections you need before you arrive and download the current hall plan from the official site — hall numbering changes between editions.

• Parts & Components — engine, transmission, chassis, braking and steering parts; the largest section and the core of any sourcing visit.
• Electronics & Systems — engine electronics, sensors, lighting, infotainment, electrified powertrain products and vehicle networking.
• Accessories & Customising — interior and exterior modification, styling parts, car audio, safety systems and performance components.
• Diagnostics & Repair / Body & Paint — workshop equipment, lifts and tools, remote diagnostics, refinishing and paint systems, workshop safety, battery recycling.
• New Energy & Connectivity — NEV platforms, batteries and charging, autonomous driving and connected mobility; the fastest-growing section, expanding again in 2026.

Special zones worth planning around: the Automotive Mobility Solutions Zone, the Remanufacturing Zone (extended for EV battery recycling), the Automotive Service Marketplace, and roughly 100 concurrent conference sessions, including the International Automotive Industry Conference CEO Summit and supply-and-demand matchmaking forums.

By metro — Line 2 to Xujing East (徐泾东) for the main entrance and most halls; Line 17 to Zhuguang Road (诸光路) for the north halls (2.1, 3.1, 4.1 side). Because the fair uses all 16 halls, check your first appointment's hall number and pick the station accordingly — it saves a 25-minute internal walk.

From Hongqiao Airport (SHA) / Hongqiao Railway Station — two stops on Line 2, 10–15 minutes; taxi ¥40–60. Flying into SHA rather than PVG is worth a small fare difference.

From Pudong Airport (PVG) — Line 2 all the way, about 90 minutes; taxi ¥250–300, 60–80 minutes.

Inside the venue — the complex is a ring: walking from hall 1 to hall 8 takes about 25 minutes. Use the internal shuttle and the elevated pedestrian ring rather than the ground level, and plan meetings hall by hall rather than by time of day.

December note — the fair closes at rush hour in cold, often wet weather; taxi queues after 17:00 are long. The metro is faster every time.

Free online pre-registration, trade visitors only. Register through the official site automechanika-shanghai.hk.messefrankfurt.com. Messe Frankfurt uses a single sign-on account across its shows, so if you have attended another Messe Frankfurt fair you can reuse the login.

What you get. A confirmation e-mail with a QR code. Scan it at a self-service kiosk in the entrance halls and the badge prints in under a minute. Bring your passport — overseas visitors are asked for it at the counter and at the gate.

One badge covers all four days and all 16 halls. Keep it: re-issuing a lost badge means queueing at the service counter with your passport.

On-site registration exists but the first morning queue is genuinely long — 7,600 exhibitors means tens of thousands of visitors arriving at once. Pre-register and arrive before 09:30 or after 13:00 on day one.

Business cards and follow-up. Bring several hundred bilingual cards. Chinese suppliers will scan your badge at the stand — that is how they build their lead list, and it is also how you will be contacted afterwards, so make sure the e-mail in your registration is one you actually read.

Visa. M business visa. Messe Frankfurt issues an invitation letter to registered visitors on request — download it from your registration account and apply early; December is busy at consulates.

Weather. Shanghai in early December is 5–13 °C, damp and grey, with cold wind between halls. Buildings are heated unevenly; layers beat a heavy coat.

Hotels. The fair fills the Hongqiao hotel belt. Book two months ahead, or stay along Line 2 further into the city — Zhongshan Park and Jing'an are 25–35 minutes door to door and much better value.

Plan by hall, not by hope. Use the online exhibitor search before you fly, shortlist 30–50 stands with their hall and stand numbers, and group them by hall. Trying to cover 16 halls without a shortlist is the single most common way visitors waste this fair.

Ask for the right documents. For automotive parts, request the specific certifications your market needs — E-mark, IATF 16949, ECE approvals — at the stand, not by e-mail later. Ask which OEM platforms a part fits and whether the factory is the actual manufacturer or a trading company.

Samples and catalogues. Take photos of the part with the stand's card in the frame. Paper catalogues get heavy fast — ask for a PDF sent to your e-mail or a WeChat file transfer instead.

Payments and apps. Alipay or WeChat Pay set up before you fly, a translation app, and a VPN if you rely on Google services.
